Swnging From the Chains of Love 2009

What started out as a tribute project to the late Willie P. Bennett, has evolved into one of the most entertaining Canadian roots super groups of all time, Blackie & The Rodeo Kings.
After releasing the critically acclaimed High or Hurtin’ in 1996, Tom Wilson, Colin Linden, and Stephen Fearing, fresh off successful solo projects, found themselves drawn in by the chemistry between them and started writing songs that could only be expressed through the Blackie & The Rodeo Kings medium. This translated into Juno nominations for BARK (2003) and Let’s Frolic (2007), as well as a Juno Award for Best Roots & Traditional Album for Kings of Love (1999).
Swinging From The Chains Of Love features a collection of tracks from the Blackie catalogue including favourites “49 Tons”, “Stoned” “Heaven For A Lonely Man”, the title track “Swinging From The Chains Of Love” and a previously unreleased track; ‘Caves of Jericho’ featuring the late Richard Bell and a cover of Johnny Cash’s ‘Folsom Prison Blues’.

Let's Frolic Again is part two of the Juno nominated and critically acclaimed CD Let's Frolic. It is the result of the sessions that happened at the legendary Bearsville Studio. BARK were only there to record one CD, but everything went so well they recorded 29 songs and is the reason we have Lets Frolic Again. With long time collaborators Richard Bell, John Dymond and Gary Craig and guest appearances from Garth Hudson, Jimmy Welder, Malcolm Burn and John Wynot, Blackie has produced one of their most satisfying and inspired efforts to date. The CD includes covers of Murray McLauchlan’s ‘Down by The Henry Moore’ and Teenage Head's `Something on My Mind’ and was produced once again by the wonderful Colin Linden.

Earlier this year the band went
into the legendary Bearsville Studio with long time collaborators
Richard Bell (keyboards), John Dymond (bass) and Gary Craig (drums)
to record their fourth album. Added to the mix were guest appearances
from Garth Hudson (the Band), Daniel Lanois, Pam Tillis, Malcolm
Burn, Wayne Jackson and John Wynot. The sessions went so well, were
so creative and fun that they ended up recording 29 songs, too much
for just one CD. As a result, Let's Frolic will
be followed-up with Let's Frolic Again, sometime
in early 2007.
Let’s Frolic features stellar yet soulful
playing, superb songwriting and heartfelt vocals. “House of
Soul” is a Daniel Lanois penned song which he handed over
to the band with one request, which was to make him cry. Reports
are that he was brought to tears when he heard it. The band got
an assist on the Hi Records inspired “I Give it Up Everyday”
from the Memphis Horns’ Wayne Jackson. Pam Tillis’s
angelic vocals perfectly compliment Stephen Fearing on “The
Fools Who Can’t Forget”. Other standout tracks include
“That’s What I Like”, “Lovin’ Cup”,
“Let’s Frolic” and “Silver Dreams”.
The wait is over. Blackie are back and it’s time for Canada
to frolic!

House of Sin BARK marks the highly anticipated
return of the Juno Award winning supergroup, Blackie & the Rodeo
Kings. Stephen Fearing, Colin Linden and Tom Wilson who together
in late 1995 formed the band as a tribute to the much respected
but little known Willie P. Bennett Their newest effort finds the
band maturing musically. Whereas the previous two albums contained
a large number of covers, BARK features 12 original songs. Arguably
some of the best material that these three talented songwriters
have ever put to disc can be found in such stellar tracks as "If I Catch You Crying," "Stoned," "Had
Enough of You" and "Jackie Washington". Recorded in the winter of 2003, B&RK captures the feel and energy
of the band and offers the listener a deep well of great songs that
they can go back to again and again.
